Our Story: Built From A Passion For Cricket
Morkel Sport was established in 2000 by Malan Morkel and his father, Albert Morkel, whose strong sporting background and involvement in cricket development inspired the foundation of the business.
The company began as a small cricket pro shop based at the North-West University Vaal Triangle Campus, alongside a successful cricket academy operated by the family. Through personalised service, trusted advice and quality equipment, Morkel Sport quickly built a loyal customer base within schools, clubs and local sporting communities.
As demand grew, the business expanded beyond cricket to offer a wider range of sporting equipment, apparel and training products across multiple sporting codes.
Growth & Expansion
Over the years, Morkel Sport expanded its footprint across Pretoria through several school-based branches, including locations at Hoërskool Garsfontein, Laerskool Tygerpoort and Maragon Primary School.
These partnerships strengthened the company’s close relationship with school sport and reinforced its reputation as a trusted supplier to athletes, coaches and sporting institutions.
A New Chapter: Continuing The Legacy
In 2023, Elana Venter joined the business as a shareholder, bringing new energy and a forward-thinking vision for the future of Morkel Sport.
In 2025, she officially acquired the business from the Morkel family, continuing the company’s legacy while guiding it into a new era focused on service, long-term relationships and sustainable growth.
Today, Morkel Sport continues to serve schools, clubs and athletes with the same passion, expertise and commitment that have defined the business since its founding.
